Energy Efficient Home Building
All home builders will tell you that they build energy efficient homes but most simply build to the current building codes. While our current building codes do create new homes that are more energy efficient than the homes that were built only a few years ago and that are far more efficient than older homes, there are some additional, relatively inexpensive things that can be done beyond the building codes to yield significantly more energy efficient homes. Most of these things also create homes that are more comfortable to live in with fewer temperature variations within the home.
I have attended many of the workshops provided by the Advanced Energy organiztion in Raleigh NC which studies applied building science among other things. Their workshops focus on practical ways to improve building performance and comfort.
